Le Moulin, an eco-friendly location
Le Moulin de Vaux has always been designed as an eco-friendly location:
Solar energy:
Courses on solar energy: construction of DHW collectors and air collectors since 1976.
Installation of 8m² solar collectors since the 1980s.
Use of a wood-fired boiler since the 1980s.
Construction of two solar greenhouses in the 1990s.
Solar collectors help heat domestic water and the O’furo. There is also passive solar heating through the construction of south-facing glass roofs.
Use of local resources:
The buildings, outbuildings and enclosure have been renovated using wood felled on the property, sawn and worked on site, including elm, oak, chestnut, acacia, alder, poplar, ash and holly.
Wood wool insulation.
Poplar and alder furniture made from wood grown on site.
Masonry for the surrounding wall using dry stones from on-site demolition, preserving biodiversity through its crevices.
Japanese-inspired dry garden using stones.
